Jefferson was not referring to information management but his quote does capture the power that lies within the information resource; a resource that is increasingly being ignored by companies today. Information really has become the currency of competitiveness and success and effective information management can make companies more profitable and better equipped to compete in a dynamic and ever changing market place.
The idea behind information management is simple – effective management of the information resource, recognising the worth of both explicit and implicit information. In essence, delivering a single source of data, facilitating the effective ‘farming’ of the information resource for the whole company and delivering true competitive advantage.
